Select Wednesdays at 8 pm EST (starting January 19th)
Have you ever wanted to write a song, but just don’t know where to begin? Do you have partially written songs that you’ve been unable to finish because you get stuck after the initial inspiration? Are you a poet or a musician who is looking for a supportive and creative environment to develop your ideas into songs?
Join us for this six-week, interactive workshop on songwriting, designed especially for those in the sober community who want to try their hand at writing songs.
With an understanding that the process of self-expression can be scary, especially in early sobriety, this workshop will be focused on sharing unfinished material and providing supportive, constructive feedback, with the aim of helping each participant complete their own song or songs. You will also gain entry to the Songwriting Facebook community group where you can share your progress and listen to and support others in their songwriting journey!
We will start with a brief overview of song forms (and their component parts) found in popular music. We will then ask participants to give constructive feedback on songs or song ideas presented by their fellow workshop participants (including the instructor!). Participants will use the feedback and guidance of the class to develop and complete their song(s). At the end of the six weeks, each participant will have the opportunity to showcase their finished work on an online platform where everyone can provide comment and support their fellow workshop participants.
While this workshop is designed to be a six-week process, participants are welcome to join at any time during this creative journey. Experience playing a chordal musical instrument is helpful, but not required!
