The Phoenix

The Phoenix Philadelphia

The Phoenix Philly offers free sober events and community experiences - workouts, art, meetups, and more - all grounded in connection and mutual support. Whether you’re in recovery, supporting a loved one, or just looking for substance-free connection, our doors are open. Our programs reflect the spirit of Philly: bold, welcoming, and full of heart. All you need to show up is 48 hours of sobriety. Come as you are. Together, we rise.

Bringing a Sober Community Space to Philly

We’re working to open a free gym and community space in Philadelphia’s 5th District - a place for substance-free connection, support, and healing. But we need your voice to help make it happen. Right now, you can support this effort by contacting Councilmember Young, signing a message of support, attending local events, and joining us at the Zoom Zoning Hearing on April 2, 2025.

Our Community Partners Make It Happen

The Phoenix couldn’t do what we do without the support of our incredible community partners. These mission-aligned organizations and businesses generously share their spaces, time, and resources to help us foster wellness and support healing across Philadelphia. Their contributions make free, active programming possible, all while building a stronger, more inclusive recovery movement. Passionate about community, wellness, or recovery support? We’d love to connect. Reach out to Lauren Johnston, Philadelphia Manager - LJohnston@thephoenix.org - to learn more about partnering with The Phoenix.

2024 Philly Rise Recovery Festival

Philly Rise Recovery Festival, a collaboration between The Phoenix and the Fourth District Container Village, had a successful debut as a vibrant celebration of recovery and community. This inaugural event brought together individuals from all backgrounds to honor the strength, resilience, and diverse paths to healing. Philly Rise created a welcoming space where the community could come together to support one another and embrace recovery journeys of all kinds - whether related to substance use, mental health, trauma, grief, or other shared challenges. Thanks to the tremendous support from our community partners, Philly Rise Recovery Festival will now be an annual event during National Recovery Month. Each year, we aim to grow and expand this celebration, offering even more music, art, wellness activities, and opportunities for connection as we continue to build a stronger, more supportive community.

Wellness Wednesdays with Container Village

Wellness Wednesdays, in partnership with the Fourth District Container Village in Parkside, offer a variety of group wellness activities every Wednesday, including line dancing, fitness classes, lawn games, socials, and more. The Village, a unique outdoor mall made from refurbished shipping containers, highlights Black-owned businesses and features amenities like a performance stage, outdoor fitness area, boxing ring, community garden, and art installations. The Phoenix is committed to a lasting partnership with Container Village, integrating our sober-inclusive programming while supporting the Village's mission to uplift Black businesses and communities of color.
