Core City Fitness offers free class for those getting sober
Detroit gym offers free sober exercise class
Walk into Core City Fitness on a Thursday evening and you’ll find a group of people lounging on gym mats and chatting. The gym on the corner of 15th and Warren Avenue isn’t too large, with exposed brick walls and sunlight streaming in through the tall windows. Three-foot-tall fans are positioned around the gym to beat the summer heat, and a breeze wafts in through the garage door.
At 7:30 p.m. sharp, the music starts and everyone gets in position. They know the drill.
Thus begins a one-hour-long Cross Fit class called SoberWOD, which stands for Sober Workout Of the Day. The free community workout program for those in addiction recovery has just one requirement: 48 hours of sobriety.
The class is held at Core City Fitness in affiliation with the Phoenix, a national nonprofit for a “sober, active community.” The Phoenix also puts on other activities in Detroit, from rock-climbing to kayaking the Detroit River. To view the full article, click Here now.
