As a Volunteer Community Leader at the Phoenix, you'll be the heart and soul of the community, guiding and supporting volunteers, recruiting new members, and reaching out to local partners. This role is all about creating a vibrant, engaged volunteer team and ensuring events are safe and supportive.
Key Responsibilities:
Recruitment: Actively recruit new volunteers through outreach.
Support Volunteers: Guide and assist volunteers with onboarding, event execution, and the NewForm app.
Community Outreach: Engage with local organizations and promote volunteer events.
Communication: Keep volunteers informed and liaison with staff to troubleshoot, report outcomes, and manage resources.
Qualifications:
Existing Phoenix volunteers are preferred for this opportunity, while active team members are eligible. All candidates must have a strong connection to the Phoenix mission and recovery movement
Strong communication and interpersonal skills
Experience mentoring individuals and/or groups
Ability to work independently and in a team
Passion for community outreach
Time Commitment & Length of Service:
10-15 hours per week starting October 2025 for a one-year service commitment. Succession planning is built into this role so that Volunteer Community Leaders are involved in identifying the next round of leaders.

What is expected of me as a Volunteer Community Leader?
You will play a vital role in guiding and supporting our volunteer community. Your primary responsibilities will include recruiting new volunteers, assisting with onboarding, and ensuring that events run smoothly and safely. You will foster a positive and inclusive environment, encouraging engagement and collaboration amongst team members.
You will serve as a bridge between volunteers and staff, keeping everyone informed and addressing any concerns that arise. Mentoring potential leaders within the volunteer team is also an important aspect of your role. You will help develop the skills and confidence of volunteers in your area.
Overall, your commitment to effective communication, community outreach, and teamwork will be essential in creating a vibrant volunteer experience.
The time commitment for this role is approximately 10-15 hours per week, with a service length of one year.
Are there any requirements for becoming a Volunteer Community Leader?
You must be an existing volunteer of the Phoenix in one of the locations listed above. You have strong communication and interpersonal skills, experience mentoring individuals and/or groups, and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team. You are passionate about community outreach, actively engage with local organizations, and are skilled at promoting events. The role requires a commitment of approximately 10-15 hours per week, with a minimum duration of one year

Do I need to be a volunteer to be eligible for the Volunteer Community Leader position?
Yes. We are seeking individuals who have any length of volunteer experience with the Phoenix.
I do not live in the listed locations, am I still eligible to apply?
Unfortunately, we are currently launching this new volunteer role in specific markets because we are taking a phased approach before we are ready in all locations. We may expand this opportunity to additional locations in the future.

If selected, when will I start my role as volunteer Team Leader?
Orientation for selected Volunteer Community Leaders will take place between October 15 – 16, 2025. After orientation, you will begin your role with ongoing training and mentorship from staff to support your development and success in the position.
If selected as a Volunteer Community Leader, will I need to give up the events I lead or support?
Possibly! It might be best to transition the events you lead or support to another volunteer so that you can fully invest your time in this new role. You will be expected to dedicate approximately 10-15 hours per week to the Volunteer Community Leader position. Ultimately, it is your decision to continue leading or supporting Phoenix events in addition to stepping into your Volunteer Community Leader role. We view this new role as an opportunity to elevate the entire team of volunteers in your community and beyond.
