Sunday, 9/18 @ 12:00-1:30pm EST
In this 90-minute event, Phoenix Virtual Instructors Kayla, Paul, and Ashley share the role that yoga and meditation plays in their recovery.
Enjoy a relaxing combination of storytelling, meditations, gentle movement and breath practices, broken up throughout the hour. Flows and meditation will be a selection of the instructors’ favorite movements.
You can join every mini-flow, or just come for the discussion and observe (no pressure & no judgment zone!). Join us to hear about the impact of a mindfulness practice while navigating recovery from these inspiring instructors:
Ashley Ryan
Ashley is a certified yoga and meditation teacher and a person in long term recovery. Ashley found her yoga practice about 5 years into her sobriety when she was looking to deepen her spiritual practices. Since then she has gone on to obtain her yoga teaching certification and develop a holistic program that has been offered in treatment facilities as an alternative approach to addiction recovery. Ashley is professionally employed in the field of addiction as a Clinic Director. Ashley is passionate about the ways yoga and meditation can transform a person’s relationship with their circumstances, leading to greater freedom. Ashley was grateful to find The Phoenix community where she could combine her love for these practices and the recovery community.
Kayla Ann
Kayla is a Registered Yoga Teacher and person in recovery. Kayla started her Yoga journey in 2015 while living in a women’s treatment facility. She realized her love for the mat and the safety it offered her. Since then, yoga has been a constant in her life. Kayla started her Yoga Teacher Training when she got her 9 months of sobriety in 2021, and started teaching at the beginning of 2022, offering others the gift and safety of yoga as a tool in their own lives! One of Kayla’s favorite quotes is, “Just because you carry it well, doesn’t mean it isn’t heavy;” yoga has helped her navigate hard times, and has helped her become the human she is today!
Paul Mayfield
Paul is a Certified Yoga Teacher and has experience teaching Gentle Chair Yoga, Meditation and Mindfulness, Hatha Yoga, and Trauma Informed Yoga. He is a person in long term recovery and has diplomas in Business & Technology as well as a Developmental Service Worker diploma. Paul is also a Reiki Master, a Thai Massage Practitioner, and a Nonviolent Crisis Intervention Certified Instructor. Paul used community in 1998 to stop drinking and to this day uses community to help him stay “SOBER”, one day at a time.”
